Chiropractic is the philosophical foundation that taught me how to care for my body. If optimal function is our goal, why add toxins in how we move, think, or fuel ourselves? Chiropractic adjustments remove interference in optimal function and facilitate ease… why would I add more stress to my body with toxins and poor health choices? Choosing or making a natural DIY deodorant has been an obvious choice for me for years! More and more research is showing the detrimental effects of chemicals absorbed into our skin, particularly on our hormonal health that can have far reaching effects. So here is what I use:
- 3tbsp organic coconut oil (if deodorant is flaky, add more)
- 4 tbsp aluminum free baking soda (neutralizes body odour)
- 3 tbsp arrowroot powder (absorbs perspiration)
- 2tbsp shea butter
- 2tbsp bentonite clay (absorbs perspiration & removes toxins)
- 5 drops Essential Oil of choice (Melaleuca, Bergamot, Lemon, Wild Orange or MY fave: Lavender)
- Place all ingredients (minus Eos) in a glass mixing bowl and place in a double boiler on medium heat.
- Heat until coconut oil and shea butter melts.
- Blend together using wooden spoon (using metal and plastics is not healthy as bentonite clay will absorb toxins from them and thus it will be in your deodorant)
- Add Eos
- Pour into a small glass jar. Deodorant will harden at room temperature.
- When you wish to use it, rub your finger on top of the deodorant to let it “melt” with your body temperature and apply to your underarms.
I use essential oils from doTerra. I have used Essential Oils ever since I started my own healing journey in high school, and know I can trust them in my home, office, for my kids! Let me know if you have questions about this, but even getting started with this recipe will decrease the toxins you are absorbing.
